Be well: Improve your gut health with 5 top tips from a nutritional therapist - Fox News
The gut does much more than just digest food. It also helps support the immune system, central nervous system, heart health, mental health and other essential bodily functions, per Healthline.
"The gut microbiome is an ecosystem, and it is important that all the different microorganisms within it are balanced," Abir Hamza-Goodacre, a registered nutritional therapist at Benenden Hospital in the U.K., said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
When the bacteria in the gut microbiome are balanced, the body is better able to process food, distribute nutrients throughout the body and eliminate waste.

When the gut microbiome is out of balance — a condition called dysbiosis — people can face a higher risk of disease, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diabetes, obesity, cancer, heart issues and other health conditions, per WebMD.
"When it comes to supporting this diverse ecosystem and looking at your gut health, it is never just one thing in isolation," Hamza-Goodacre said.
"Given that the gut is so intrinsic to overall well-being, you have to look at your wider lifestyle and what could be affecting your gut health."
There are some specific changes that anyone can make to their lifestyle and diet to support a balanced gut, which Hamza-Goodacre shared with Fox News Digital.
Here are five smart tips.
1. Eat a whole-food diet
Diet is key to favorable gut health, according to Hamza-Goodacre.
"Often, the people with a healthy and diverse gut ecosystem are those who eat a range of colorful fruits and vegetables every day," she said.

Consuming too many processed foods, sugary snacks and unsaturated fats can cause an imbalance between bad and good gut bacteria, the nutritionist warned.
She recommends incorporating a diverse range of fruits and vegetables into the everyday diet.
"It is also important to include sources of insoluble fiber in your diet, which help to speed up the passage of food through the stomach," Hamza-Goodacre said.

Some examples of insoluble fiber sources include nuts, grains, legumes, cauliflower, strawberries and raspberries.
2. Embrace fermented foods
Some of the best foods you can eat to support gut health are fermented foods, the nutritionist said.
"The gut microbiome is an ecosystem, and it is important that all the different microorganisms within it are balanced."
"Eating fermented foods can help boost the number of good bacteria, also known as probiotics, in your gut, ultimately aiding your digestive system," she explained.

Plain yogurt, kefir, kimchi, miso and tempeh are some examples of fermented foods.
3. Reassess your stress
Research has shown that high stress levels can cause a reduction of good bacteria in the gut, Hamza-Goodacre said.
"Consistently high stress levels could be the cause of an unhealthy gut and could also lead to digestive issues such as constipation or loss of appetite," she noted.
"Even small changes, such as practicing mindfulness, exercising more and speaking to a mental health professional could improve your overall well-being and gut health," she added.
4. Move your body
Increasing activity levels can improve all areas of wellness, including the gut.
"The increased oxygen in your bloodstream and rise in body temperature that comes with exercise are exactly the conditions your good gut bacteria thrive on," Hamza-Goodacre said.

For those who are just starting out with exercise, implementing small changes, such as a quick power walk or gentle jog, are recommended.
"Pilates and yoga are also great low-impact exercises to strengthen muscles and work up a sweat," she added.
5. Limit artificial sweeteners
Another simple dietary change to make for your gut is to limit the use of artificial sweeteners, Hamza-Goodacre suggests.
"Artificial sweeteners can disrupt the balance of beneficial bacteria in your gut," she said.

"An imbalanced gut flora can lead to stomach disturbances such as gas and bloating, as well as more long-term symptoms, such as unintentional weight changes or constant fatigue."

If you have a more sensitive gut or notice uncomfortable stomach symptoms occurring after consuming products high in artificial sweeteners, Hazma-Goodacre suggests opting for naturally sweet foods, such as bananas, berries, sweet potatoes and cashew nuts.

Of course, as a British royal, she's probably been taught a few things about showing off her best angles, and now, royal fans are circulating a trick that the Princess of Wales secretly utilizes.
In a behind-the-scenes video from February 2022 (as shared by @the.royal.watcher on TikTok), Princess Catherine is seen posing for pictures with Queen Margrethe II and Crown Princess Mary of Denmark. The video sees the queen ask the then-duchess to scoot closer for a photo, and if you look closely, you'll see that Catherine subtly shuffles her feet to the side, in a move similar to the viral heel-toe/“happy feet” dance move.
So, What Exactly Does Princess Catherine Do?
Basically, instead of taking large steps while the cameras are flashing, the Princess of Wales alternates between heel and toe, slowly shuffling her feet to the side to get closer to the people she's taking photos with.
What Is the Point of This Trick?
As one commenter pointed out, there seems to be a logical reason that the princess does this shuffle. When one user asked why she didn't just step over, a different viewer wrote: “Because people take pictures every second so it would look awkward if there was just a picture of her taking a giant step forward.” Wow, we didn't even think about this.
And as we perused pictures from this photo op, sure enough, the Princess of Wales looked poised in every single one—even the snaps where she was scooting over to the side.

Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt says Yankees were relaying tips to Aaron Judge: 'We knew it was going on' - Yahoo Sports
The controversy surrounding Aaron Judge’s wandering eyes finally appears to have reached a definitive conclusion, despite the slugger's insistence otherwise.
During an interview with Jomboy Media podcaster Chris Rose, Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt explained the team’s perspective on what went down, and whether or not it was fair game.
"They knew we were tipping and they were relaying tips," the 34-year-old said in a podcast released on Monday. "Is that illegal? No. Is it kind of that grey area, of 'if the first and third base coaches are having to relay tips?'...you can argue that back and forth.
"Judge's response to it? I had no problem with it. Was it a lie? Yeah, it was a lie," he continued. "What do you want him to do, come out and say 'hey, all their pitchers are tipping and I'm going to tell them how they're tipping. I just think he kind of made up a story just to basically kind of say, like, 'I'm not going to tell them they're tipping. Why would I say that?'"
The explanation from Bassitt provides some insight after the Blue Jays and Yankees squabbled throughout their four-game set between May 15-18.
Amongst the subjects of the beef, Blue Jays manager John Schneider publicly made remarks on ensuring MLB have the first and third base coaches in the correct positions, a move many saw as petty at the time but now seems far more significant.
During the at-bat in question, Judge took a quick glance to his right — apparently to peer over at Yankees first base coach Travis Chapman — before slaughtering a mammoth 462-foot home run off Blue Jays reliever Jay Jackson.
When questioned about the glance post-game, the Yankees, including Judge and manager Aaron Boone, vehemently denied any wrongdoing or foul play.
"It was kind of a lot of chirping from our dugout, which I really didn’t like in a situation where it’s a 6-nothing game and I know [Boone] got tossed," Judge told reporters. "I was trying to save [Boone] by calling a timeout, like, 'Hey, hold up here. Let me work here.' I was kind of trying to see who was chirping in the dugout. It’s 6-nothing. Boonie got tossed, let’s go to work now."
"I think most of the people in the know, know that there's nothing there," the Yankees skipper added. "I'm sure that will be the prevailing wisdom as it unfolds."
Toronto, understandably, didn’t take very kindly to those comments, as Schneider quickly called nonsense on the comments, stating the next day during a pre-game availability that he "found it a little funny that he was worrying about his dugout while he was in the batter’s box."

A Twitter user shared how their uncle employed a trick to stop money requests from relatives.
Social media is filled with posts that show different kinds of WhatsApp conversations between people. Be it a boss snapping at their employee for not checking a text during lunch or an employee sending memes to communicate with their manager, the Internet is filled with such WhatsApp conversation-related shares. Twitter user @callmemahrani’s post is an addition to that list. In the tweet, they explained the trick their uncle employed to stop his relatives from asking for money from him.

“My uncle just sent a message in the family group asking for money. I privately messaged him asking for banking details so I can deposit the required amount, but he responded saying he doesn’t need money, he just wanted to make sure that nobody in the family asks him for money,” reads the post shared on Twitter.

Sleep experts say adults should aim for seven to nine hours of sleep a night, but that's not always easy for everyone.
The US military recently revealed an ingenious trick that the military uses to fall asleep quickly and smoothly, and they claim it works on almost everyone. This technique is so successful that it's said to work even in stressful, fast-paced work environments, which is why it is used by the military for soldiers who need to sleep in war zones or other dangerous places.
The technique is explained in the book Relax and Win: Championship Performance published in 1981 and it is being revived on social networks.
Relax, exhale, and sleep
The principle idea is to relax your body from the top of your head to the tips of your toes.
Start by relaxing your face, tongue and jaw muscles, as well as the muscles around your eyes. After that, lower your shoulders as far down as possible, then do the same with your upper and lower arm, one side at a time, relaxing groups of muscles in each area, one group at a time.
Finally, exhale and lower your chest, then do the same thing down your legs, starting from your hips and all the way to your toes.
Apparently, after six weeks of practice, the technique works for 96% of people who try it. This method has gone viral.
Does this trick really work?
One person told UK news outlet The Metro that he was in the army and they taught him this method, confirming that it works. Additionally, an experienced college psychology professor would teach this method, also claiming proof of success.
Another person said her doctor taught her this technique with slight modifications when she suffered from PTSD insomnia. She believes it works 100% once you become adept with the method.
Twitter user @Jontafkasi said it cured his four decades of insomnia. He thinks it's a bit early to get excited, but after 40 years of insomnia, he slept well one night.
He's impressed and a bit nervous that such a simple method, more so from the army can be helpful. He never has trouble going to sleep but usually wakes up in the early hours and then struggles to get back to sleep.
Usually, he then tosses and turns for a few hours but this technique stopped all that and allowed him to go back to sleep quite quickly.
