The Star Tribune is celebrating 50 years of high school football state tournaments one day at a time for 50 days.
Stillwater turned to trickery with its back against the wall.
Wide receiver Bob de St. Aubin caught a 6-yard scoring strike on a halfback option pass from Todd Butterfield on fourth down with 18 seconds remaining, giving Stillwater a 20-17 victory over Richfield for the Class AA state championship. It was the first of four titles for the Ponies.
De St. Aubin was on the receiving end of a 26-yard flea-flicker on a third-and-8 play from the Richfield 31-yard line with 54 seconds left. His game-winning touchdown capped a 77-yard drive after Dave Larson connected on a 30-yard field goal with 3 minutes, 41 seconds remaining to give Richfield a 17-13 lead.
"Any time a team can go 70 yards when it's behind and its back is to the wall it deserves to be No. 1," Stillwater coach George Thole said. "It was unbelievable."
In other finals:
Lee Habeisen's 5-yard scoring run on the first play of the fourth quarter gave Gaylord its first lead of the day, 14-7. Junior running back Scott Bandemeir was instrumental on both scoring drives and finished with 151 yards on 22 carries.
In Class C, Esko won its first and only state crown with a 62-0 shutout of Karlstad. Quarterback Kevin Lindell threw for two touchdowns, both to Jack Campbell, and ran for two more scores as the Eskomos raced to a 36-0 lead at halftime. Campbell added a third touchdown on a 17-yard run.
State championship games
Class AA: Stillwater 20, Richfield 17
Class A: St. Thomas Academy 21, St. Peter 14
Class B: Gaylord 14, Onamia 13
Class C: Esko 62, Karlstad 0
Nine-Man: Ruthton 42, Audubon 20
Article From & Read More ( Trick plays? Stillwater called them winning plays in 1975 - Star Tribune )The Green Bay Packers hit the road to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night. The Eagles (9-1) have the best record in the NFL and sit atop the NFC East division, leading the Dallas Cowboys (8-3) and New York Giants (7-4). They are 6.5-point favorite in this one against a 4-7 Packers team that is coming off a loss to Tennessee.
So, what can we expect from a betting standpoint Sunday night?
Sports betting analyst Eric Moody and Football Outsiders' Aaron Schatz provide their top plays for the matchup.
Note: Lines from Caesars Sportsbook unless otherwise indicated.
Moody: I recommend betting on the under. It's no secret that the Eagles love to run the football. Only the Bears average more rushing attempts per game than Philadelphia. Aaron Rodgers confirmed last week that he has been playing with a broken thumb. The injury has resulted in a decrease in his statistical production. During the Packers' first five games, Rodgers completed 69.7% of his passes with eight touchdowns and three interceptions. He completed only 62% of his passes over the next six, during which he had 11 touchdowns and threw four interceptions. AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones have also played a greater role offensively for Green Bay following the injury. I don't anticipate a high-scoring game, but I think the Eagles will win easily. This Packers team averages only 18.4 points per game. The under is 4-1 in Green Bay's past 5 road games. In addition, the under is 6-2 in Green Bay's last 8 games following a straight-up loss.
Schatz: There is no such thing as a trap game. What exactly are the Eagles supposed to be looking forward to? Next week against Tennessee? Are they already looking forward to the Cowboys? Is the idea that they're going to lose four straight games looking forward to Christmas Eve? That the players will have trouble getting up for a nationally televised game on Sunday night? This game counts, and the Eagles will come to play. So will the Packers, though, and our projected line and total are very close to the Vegas line and total on this game, so I don't recommend playing it.

Schatz: The Green Bay defense is poor against the run, but ironically that's why I'm going to take the under on Hurts rushing yardage. The Packers have been very strong against quarterback rushing with the exception of a few long Josh Allen scrambles in Week 8. They've been easy for running backs to run on and I think the Eagles will have enough success with their backs that they won't need to have as many Hurts designed runs. And the Packers' pass rush doesn't force many scrambles. There have been only 10 quarterback scrambles against the Packers this year, 31st ahead of only Cleveland.
Moody: Eagles first half, -3.5. I think the Eagles will want to get off to a fast start after losing to the Commanders a few weeks ago and barely defeating the Colts last week. In the first half, Philadelphia leads the league with nearly 18 points, while the Packers rank near the bottom. It would be wise for the Eagles to impose their offensive will on the Packers' defense in order to force them to rely heavily on the passing game. With 33 sacks this season, Philadelphia's pass rush is imposing. It's the third most in the league. In addition, the Eagles have 13 interceptions, which is tied for the most in the league. Additionally, the Eagles must tighten up their running game. The first half of this game could be dominated by Philadelphia if these areas are tightened up.

After suffering a 1-0 loss to Switzerland on the opening matchday of Group G, Cameroon still haven't managed to win a World Cup match since all the way back in 2002.
Remarkably, another against Serbia on Monday in Qatar would see the African side tie the record for the longest-ever losing run in competition history — nine matches, as set by Mexico between 1930 and 1958.
As such, expect Rigobert Song's side to show much more attacking threat in this encounter against much-fancied dark horses Serbia, though a repeat result of their opener vs Switzerland should perhaps be expected.
MORE: How to watch Cameroon vs Serbia at the 2022 World Cup
Despite a 2-0 defeat to Brazil on matchday one, Serbia come into this clash with Cameroon heavily fancied, according to the bookmakers.
While their attacking freedom was locked down professionally by the South Americans, this time should see a return to Serbia's usual 2022 form against Cameroon, and the type of free-scoring play that saw them qualify for the Qatar World Cup by topping a group that contained Portugal.

Cameroon didn't appear to suffer any injury concerns against Switzerland, when Napoli midfielder Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa — who had been a pre-match doubt — was in the starting lineup.
Meanwhile, Serbia boss Dragan Stojkovic may be tempted to start Dusan Vlahovic, depending on the Juventus striker's injury status following an adductor injury he suffered on October 21.
Vlahovic made his return to action when he replaced Filip Mladenovic after 66 minutes of the defeat against Brazil.

Given the odds on offer and their form prior to their opening World Cup match, Serbia should prove to be too strong for Cameroon here, though the value on the African side stealing an unlikely victory is tempting.
Serbia came into the tournament unbeaten across their last six internationals, winning five of those whilst finding the net 18 times during that spell.

With just three wins between them across their prior 20 World Cup combined outings heading into this clash, Cameroon and Serbia will both be desperate to take three points to give themselves a shot at qualification for the Round of 16.
Serbia are the bookmakers favourites, and that's unsurprising when looking through their squad.
With Aleksandar Mitrovic, Dusan Vlahovic and Luka Jovic all set to be available for this one, they'll have plenty of attacking firepower to call upon.
The second round of World Cup matches so far has seen a small explosion of goals when looking at the sides who failed to grab a victory in their respective openers.
Given that Cameroon and Serbia both failed to win three vital points on matchday one, we expect plenty of goals in this clash as a result, especially when looking at both sides' pre-tournament form.
Serbia struck 18 times across their final six matches before the 2022 World Cup, with four of those outings witnessing both teams score.
Similarly, both of Cameroon's friendlies before this tournament saw both teams net in two 1-1 draws, so we feel this should be a safe bet here.
On first glance there's plenty of players who could break the deadlock here, but we can't ignore Lazio's Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, who represents fantastic value given he has been in good club form so far this season.
He's netted five times across 20 matches for Lazio across all competitions this season from his natural central midfield position. Add into that for Serbia he plays as an advanced, more attacking central midfielder and he'll fancy his chances versus Cameroon.

These could all come in very handy.
The holiday season tends to be an expensive one. From gifts to travel to an ongoing stream of parties (some of which you may be tasked with hosting), many people wind up spending a whole lot of extra money during the holidays -- and risking debt as a result. With that in mind, here are a few tips for managing your credit cards during the holidays -- and also making the most of the perks they offer.
The number of purchases you make on your credit cards could double or triple during the holidays, especially if you have a lot of gifts to buy. That's why it's a great idea to check your credit card balances on a weekly basis. If those numbers get to be uncomfortably high, you can take steps to cut back on spending or change your gift-giving strategy to avoid ending up with debt on your hands.
Some credit cards offer extra cash back on certain retail store purchases during the fourth quarter of the year. If you expect to do a lot of shopping for the holidays, pay attention to those rotating categories so you end up using the right cards at the right time.

Many credit cards offer sign-up bonuses that can put a pile of cash in your pocket for meeting a certain spending requirement within a specific period of time. You may, for example, be eligible for an offer that rewards you with $200 for making $2,000 in purchases within three months of opening your card. The holidays are a great time to chase sign-up bonuses, since that's when your spending might increase, so dig around and see what offers are out there.
It's ideal to close out the holiday season without credit card debt. But that may not be the boat you land in. If you're going to rack up some credit card debt in the course of your holiday shopping, pay attention to the interest rates your various cards come with. You're better off carrying a balance on a card with a 16% interest rate than one with a 20% interest rate.
Many people end up traveling during the holidays. If you plan to do the same, it pays to use a travel rewards card -- or apply for one ASAP if you don't have one. These cards often come loaded with features that help you save money on travel, like free checked bags for domestic flights and discounts on in-flight purchases.
The amount of money you end up spending during the holidays can be overwhelming. Use these tips to make sure you don't get in over your head as far as your credit card balances are concerned -- and to get the most benefit from the cards you end up using.
If you have credit card debt, transferring it to this top balance transfer card secures you a 0% intro APR for up to 21 months! Plus, you'll pay no annual fee. Those are just a few reasons why our experts rate this card as a top pick to help get control of your debt. Read our full review for free and apply in just 2 minutes.

Hughes scored a natural hat trick in Saturday's 5-1 win over Washington.
The first goal came after a turnover at the Caps' blue line in the second period. Hughes came down the middle of the ice and banked a shot off Charlie Lindgren's left leg from below the goal line. He scored another goal from along the goal line three minutes later with a wrist shot that banked in off Lindgren's mask. The third goal came in the third period when Hughes converted on a two-on-one. It was his first NHL hat trick. Hughes has four goals in his last two games and he now leads the Devils with 11. And he's tied with Jesper Bratt for the team lead in points (25).

Clemson tried to get a bit too cute on a first-half return against South Carolina, resulting in a devastating outcome for the Tigers and a momentum-changing play for the Gamecocks.
On the free kick following a safety, Clemson decided to break out some trickery. Deep return man Will Shipley fielded the ball around his own 10-yard line and scrambled up the field for about 10 yards, where a group of his teammates was huddled. While hidden behind the group of blockers, he secretly gave the ball to fellow running back Phil Mafah, causing some confusion for South Carolina’s kick coverage team.
Everything seemed to be going well as Mafah found some room to run up the right sideline. However after he gained a few more yards, the Tigers returner fumbled and the ball was promptly recovered by the Gamecocks.
South Carolina made Clemson pay for the botched trick play just a few moments later. On the fourth play of the ensuing drive, the Gamecocks scored a touchdown, cutting the deficit down to just two points following the extra point.
The Tigers answered right back with a five-play, 75-yard touchdown drive to go back up 23–14. Still, it’s safe to assume that Dabo Swinney will be putting the return trick play back in the vault for the foreseeable future.
