Before she became a member of the British royal family, the Duchess of Sussex was pursuing her own career path, as an actress and lifestyle blogger. With the latter, Meghan offered her readers plenty of insight into her personal tastes, whether they be her strategies for finding the perfect present, her favorite books, or her fashion tips.
The Duchess's blog, The Tig, went offline as she neared her royal wedding, but much of it is still accessible via the Internet Archive—including one article that's particularly handy for this time of year, titled "Winter Styling Tricks." In her post, she acknowledges that it can be hard to muster the effort as temperatures dip ("The minute that wind chill hits, we feel you—we want to jump into our flannel jammies and hide under the covers until the sun comes out again," she writes), before insisting that it's worth pushing through the malaise. "Winter shouldn’t be a time to forgo fashion—it’s actually one of the best, if not the best, season for stylish clothing," Meghan adds.

Opt for Wintry Whites
"While many of you stylish gals have been sporting that white-on-white look all through the summer, it’s winter when your snowy hues really stand out," Meghan writes. She urges her readers to pair their bright white pieces with darker basics—just like how she matched her coat with a navy dress in heels in this 2018 appearance.
Get Cozy in Shearling
Even before her royal days, Meghan was a fan of pairing an understated outfit with statement coat. She suggests finding a shearling-lined coat to "throw over a pair of black skinnies or a dark floral maxi-dress (with tights, of course) and finish with a pair of sleek moto boots." Her advice recalls the look above, which she wore during her 2018 visit to New Zealand.
Embrace Athleisure
Meghan thinks casual is great—just not too casual. "Don’t be sloppy. Your entire 'fit shouldn’t be Equinox-appropriate. Try a pair of upscale leggings (sorry, no scrappy Lululemons you have at the bottom of your drawer!) paired with a lush sweater and a monochromatic, sleek jacket," she writes, adding that sneakers are "perfect," as long as they're "not your sweaty gym shoes." Her words bring to mind the outfit she wore during her highly memorable 2019 trip to New York, when she attended her own star-studded baby shower.
Wear a Coat as a Dress
There's a trick to making the coat-as-dress maneuver work, says Meghan. "Make sure your outerwear is a real standout piece—that means no boring black wool versions or same-old, been there, done that trench coats. Your coat should have style and pizzazz—and whether that comes in the form of a trendy pattern, pretty colors, or festive embellishments, well, that’s really all up to you," she writes. Still, she suggests wearing a dress underneath (to avoid "flasher status") and avoiding any coat with short hemlines. Florals Aren't Just for Spring
"Florals in December?! Call us crazy, but dark, moody flowery duds look elegant, as well as seasonally appropriate," the Duchess writes. She showed off her on winter florals during a 2018 engagement, above.
