Warning: SPOILERS for WandaVision Episode 9 - "The Series Finale"
WandaVision saved Jimmy Woo's (Randall Park) best magic trick for "The Series Finale" and his escape from handcuffs was even better than his mastery of card tricks. The FBI Agent used his talent to free himself from S.W.O.R.D. custody and he called in the Bureau just in time to arrest S.W.O.R.D. Acting Director Tyler Hayward (Josh Stamberg) at the end of WandaVision's final episode.
Special Agent James E. Woo debuted in Ant-Man and the Wasp. Even though he was technically an antagonist to Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Jimmy was a memorably endearing character. Woo was in charge of ensuring Scott served his two years of house arrest after he violated the Sokovia Accords in Captain America: Civil War. But despite his attempts at being hard-nosed and by-the-book, Jimmy was a quirky guy with obvious social anxieties. Woo was also fascinated by Scott's magic tricks, which he learned from Online Close-Up Magic University. Jimmy was so dazzled by Scott's talent, he inspired to learn magic on his own time, although Agent Woo was blundering through basic card tricks throughout Ant-Man and the Wasp.
When Jimmy Woo returned in WandaVision, he immediately showed that his magic skills improved significantly when he produced his business card with a showman's flourish as he introduced himself to Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). But Jimmy's best trick was saved for WandaVision's finale after Tyler Hayward had Jimmy placed in S.W.O.R.D. custody. Jimmy deftly swiped a cell phone while distracting Hayward, using the old magic tactic of misdirection. Then, when he was left alone in a barn, Jimmy easily picked the lock of his handcuffs in Harry Houdini-like fashion and proudly marked his escape with, "Flourish!" Woo than called the FBI so that backup would arrive "within the hour."
Ant-Man and the Wasp took place in 2018 while WandaVision is set five years later. It's clear if Jimmy survived Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap in Avengers: Infinity War, but if he did, he obviously practiced his skills during the five-year interim. Of course, as Ant-Man, Scott Lang was trapped in the Quantum Realm during that time so Jimmy couldn't reach out to Scott and show off his improved talent or commiserate about magic. Jimmy did keep up with the Avengers' after they saved the world from Thanos and he knows all about what happened in the final battle, especially how Wanda Maximoff and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) nearly took down Thanos by themselves.
WandaVision is a show about magic; Wanda Maximoff's (Elizabeth Olsen) sorcery kept the town of Westview, New Jersey trapped inside her magical Hex, and she and Vision (Paul Bettany) also staged a magic show complete with the classic disappearing cabinet trick in WandaVision's second episode. Since Jimmy is such an enthusiast for magic, he turned out to be a natural fit for WandaVision and kept the magical theme prominent even outside of the Hex. Fans can even track Jimmy Woo's progression as a character through his improving magical skills, and Jimmy's handcuff escape was a sensational payoff for how far he's come since Scott Lang got him interested in Online Close-Up Magic University. Hopefully, Jimmy Woo will return to the MCU — perhaps alongside Monica Rambeau and Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) once again - and continue to present his mastery of vaudeville stage magic.
