USC Women's Soccer Blasts Washington 5-0 Behind Hocking Hat Trick - University of Southern California Official Athletic Site

LOS ANGELES – The No. 19 USC women's soccer team exploded for five goals in the second half, including three from Penelope Hocking, to beat No. 20 Washington 5-0 at home.

The victory is the most lopsided of the season for USC and marks the fifth straight win and fourth straight shutout at home for the Trojans. The win also marks the 100th victory under Head Coach Keidane McAlpine since he took over as manager for the Trojans seven seasons ago. USC improves to 5-3-1 overall and 4-3 in Pac-12 play, while Washington falls to 7-2-2, 3-2-2.

In a fairly even first half, the Trojans narrowly outshot Washington 6-4, but in the span of just over 11 minutes early in the second half, USC broke things wide open with four quick goals.

Hocking collected a header from Kaylin Martin near midfield and broke free behind the Huskies' defense, beating the keeper for her first goal of the day in the 53rd minute. Three minutes later, the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick after a Washington handball in the area, and Hocking cashed that one in easily as well.

The junior forward completed the hat trick in the 61st minute with a wonderful strike on the run from distance. It was the third time in her career she has netted at least three goals in a game, and the sixth multi-goal game for Hocking.

Tara McKeown got in on the action in the 64th minute, putting USC up 4-0 on her sixth goal of the year, and Katie Roditis punched one home in the 85th minute to pick up her first collegiate goal and cap the scoring for the night.

The USC defense allowed just four shots and two corners in the second half. Kaylie Collins made five saves on the day, picking up her second straight shutout in goal.
