New Concept From Trick Dog Team to Replace Mission Bar Bon Voyage - Eater SF

Welcome to p.m. Intel, your bite-sized roundup of Bay Area food and restaurant news. Tips are always welcome, drop them here.

  • Bon Voyage is out and Chezchez is in. The new concept will take over the Valencia Street space that’s been leased by the Trick Dog team for the past few years, a spokesperson for the Bon Vivants Hospitality group confirmed for Eater in an email, though at this point, there are no additional details to share. This does, however, mean fans of Bon Voyage, the cocktail bar inspired by an intrepid global traveller, have spent their last late night sipping colorful tropical cocktails with disco party vibes at the Mission spot, which has been closed since the beginning of the pandemic. The group’s crown jewel, award-winning neighborhood watering hole Trick Dog, has also yet to resume regular operations, but takeout operation Quik Dog is still serving hot dogs to the sidewalk.
  • And in other Mission bar news: Bar Part Time is taking over former Thieves Tavern space on Guerrero and 14th Street, the SF Chronicle reports. What started as a pandemic pop-up with a reputation for “raucous DJ dance parties” — and a particularly narrow interpretation of what constitutes natural wine — will now evolve into a brick-and-mortar spot for sulfite-free wine by the glass and a small menu of food (the space at 496 14th Street doesn’t have a kitchen). The bar isn’t expect to open until the fall, but in the meantime, follow the Bar Part Time Instagram for pop-up events. [SF Chronicle]
  • Hot on the heels of the two-for-one debut of Sundo and Dela Curo, Swan’s Market is getting another new tenant. First reported by Berkeleyside, the popular tamale makers of La Guerrera’s Kitchen will move into the Oakland food destination. It’s been an active year and a half for the mother-daughter team; in March 2020, Reyna Maldonado and her mother, Ofelia Barajas, decided not to renew the lease at their year-old Fruitvale restaurant but quickly landed a new home in Old Oakland. Now the duo will prepare to relocate once again, this time taking over the space that used to house Cosecha. [Berkeleyside]
  • An East Bay festival will return next month: The Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce announced the return of the Oakland Chinatown Streetfest on Facebook. The event will take place on Saturday, August 28 and Sunday, August 29 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will bring out food and beverage vendors as well as offer three stages for live entertainment.
  • The full Board of Supervisors could vote today to make parklets a permanent part of San Francisco’s urban landscape. A modified version of the Shared Spaces proposal is on the agenda for the meeting scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 13. Changes include that only small, mom-and-pop businesses will be eligible to get a two-year fee waiver; fees cost anywhere from $1,000 to $3,000 for a single parking space, according to reporting from the SF Chronicle. • The Mission is getting a cool-kid dance party spot that serves hardcore natural wines
  • Oakland’s beloved La Guerrera’s Kitchen is moving to Swan’s Market
  • S.F. parklets inch a step closer to becoming permanent part of the city
