Remember when the LA Galaxy scored the fastest hat trick in MLS history? - LAG Confidential

Over the weekend, Nashville SC’s Hany Mukhtar scored the fastest MLS hat trick in the last two decades, with three goals in six minutes during a romp over the Chicago Fire. Unsurprisingly, he was picked for MLS Player of the Week, since goals draw eyeballs.

But the longstanding record of fastest hat trick in MLS remains intact, and it’s held by an LA Galaxy player, when Harut Karapetyan had a five-minute hat trick in an 8-1 win over the Dallas Burn in 1998.

The Armenian forward helped well and truly put that game out of reach for LA, coming in the midst of their record-breaking 1998 regular season.

Ultimately, Karapetyan, an inaugural Galaxy player dating to 1996, was traded about 2 12 months after this record-setting hat trick, to San Jose. Two stints there and a season with the Tampa Bay Mutiny, Karapetyan retired in 2000 and settled back in Southern California after hanging up his cleats.

You may have seen Karapetyan in Galaxy gear earlier this year, when he was one of the old-time G’s who modeled the new alternate jersey for the club, a direct homage to the kit Karapetyan scored his hattie in back in the day.

And for now, he retains his claim on the MLS record books.
