Deer with Trick-or-Treat bucket stuck on face saved by Pa. neighbors - PennLive

For several days, residents of one Monroe County neighborhood were worried about a deer.

The young buck was spotted around the neighborhood with a lime-green Halloween bucket covering his mouth, the handle securely fixed behind his budding antlers, WNEP is reporting.

Here is their report:

“I was stressed for him,” Roja Rubi, of Tobyhanna, told the station. But she was also determined to help. “I felt like I would be able to get it off of him.”

Photos and videos of the deer started circulating on social media for several days, and Rubi told WBRE/WYOU she would spend several hours each day looking for the deer to try to help him.

Another neighbor, Robert Thompson, of Emerald Lakes, told WNEP he saw Rubi’s Facebook posts, then around 8:30 a.m. Saturday, he happened to look outside of his home and saw the jack-o-lantern-muzzled buck, along with several other deer who seemed to be sticking by him through the ordeal.

Along with other neighbors, they distracted the deer with food until a state game warden could tranquilize the deer and remove the bucket, reports indicate.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission generally asks people not to feed wildlife.

“It was a whole group effort, where everyone just came together and pretty much saved that deer’s life,” Thompson told WNEP. “It would have been a really horrible way for a deer to die.”

Rubi told PennLive Monday that saving the deer was the result of some great teamwork, and she is happy that he can eat, drink and be himself once again.

“He’s enjoying his life much better now,” she said.
