Road safety tips when traveling around school buses - Fort Wayne's NBC

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Wayne's NBC) - With three major school districts beginning school Wednesday, city officials want to remind you how to stay safe around school buses.

Northwest Allen County, Southwest Allen County and East Allen County Schools all started school Wednesday.

This means school buses are back on the streets and officials want to to remind you when to stop for them.

Above is a graphic on when to stop when you are driving near a school bus.

Here is what you need to know when you encounter a stopped school bus:

• Two-Lane Traffic --- Vehicles traveling in both lanes must stop
• Multi-Lane Paved Across --- Vehicles traveling in both directions must stop
• Divided Highway (unpaved way or a raised median or a barrier) --- Vehicles behind the bus must stop, vehicles traveling in the opposite direction must proceed with caution
