Quick Tips and Tricks
- Take note of the different types of damage that Back 4 Blood has to offer. Here's what you need to know
- Solid red damage can be healed by bandages and medkits.
- Black and red damage is known as trauma damage and cannot be healed by normal means. To fix trauma damage you have to find a first aid station, which are typically locked behind supply caches that require a tool kit to open.
- Blue health, which is obtained primarily by using pain killers, can heal trauma damage, but it's only temporary health. It will deplete by one point every couple of seconds until it's all gone.
- Have your sounds turned up, as listening for audio cues such as sleeping noises and retching can really provide your team with the upper hand. Knowing of an enemy's location before you have the chance to visually spot them can really be a game-changer to how your team approach certain situations going forward.
- Don't overlook the benefits of stacking a few increased stamina or ammo cards, especially when first starting out, as being able to outrun or mow down hordes longer can be essential to survival.
- Toolkits are a must, especially if you plan on exploring secret areas! So when your team is restocking supplies, make sure at least one teammate has a toolkit on hand. No matter the situation, a toolkit should always take priority.
- Communication is the key to your team's success in Back 4 Blood. Whether it's taking down enemies together, sharing upgrades and supplies, or even something as simple as exploring, the way in work your team works together will ultimately determine how well your team survives during each game.
- Wondering off alone is almost always a guaranteed death sentence. So to reiterate above, always stick with your team and be sure to communicate your movements if you're wanting to explore new areas.
- Nests will block your progress until you destroy all the growths and nodes - when in doubt, follow the glowing red tendrils to find the nodes that must be destroyed.
- Better rarity weapons means better stats, so it's almost always worth swapping out a common starting weapon for something better down the line.
- Both your main weapon and sidearm can have mods on them. While you can't remove a mod, you can replace it with new mods you find or buy in the safe room. This will drop your old mod on the ground, so either let a teammate equip it, or swap to your sidearm and put the old mod on it.
- Certain weapons you find will have red-colored mods. These are damaged and have negative modifiers, so be on the lookout for new mods to replace them.
- Be on the lookout for well-placed gas bottles, as when shot they'll cause a large explosion, taking out any nearby enemies that are within its radius.
Combat Tips and Tricks
- Almost all enemies have glowing weakspots, so be sure to aim for these areas, as you'll deal extra damage for each successful hit.
- Make sure to coordinate your ammo types. Having too many players all using the same ammo type will cause you to run out of ammo quickly since your teammates will all be fighting for the same ammo.
- On that same note, if you're low on ammo, ask your team if they have any spare ammo for a gun they're not using. You can drop ammo by bringing up your inventory and dragging the ammo you want to drop off the menu.
- Use your melee bash skill to push zombies off of you while you reload. Bashing does not interrupt your reload, so you can push enemies away and reload all at the same time.
- It's easy to get overwhelmed in Back 4 Blood, especially as massive hordes of zombies swarm you. For this reason, we highly recommend prioritizing the order in which you take down enemies. Dealing with larger targets like Tallboys, Stingers, and Hockers, should always be your main focus, as these enemies pack a rather serious punch and have been known to quickly wipe teams that have had their focus elsewhere.
Exploration Tips and Tricks
- Whatever you do, don't startle the flocks of birds that you'll find scattered throughout each map, as when spooked, they'll alert any nearby zombie hordes directly to your location.
- Be aware of your surroundings, as you'll often find hints around the environments that you are exploring, such as signs, indicating that alarms have been put in place. With that said, be sure to double and maybe triple check those cars and unexplored building doors before you go charging in.
- Keep an eye out for Intel Folders often found in buildings, as they'll either let each player grab a free active card, or sometimes spend coins to get a more powerful card.
- Have at least one team member get the card to sense nearby money and designate them as the one to explore while others protect them.
- Cars will often contain money and sometimes even support items - but may require you to break some windows.
- While we don't recommend breaking off from your group, you will often find Copper stashes off the main path. So, encouraging your team to head off the beaten path may sometimes have its advantages.
- You can climb and mantle more terrain than you might think - having the high ground is always a bonus, so try to find high roads as much as possible to stay one step ahead of the hordes.
