Walkes is the ninth player in program history to score at least three goals in a single match. William Akio (2018-21) last accomplished the feat on Oct. 11, 2019 when he scored a hat trick against Houston Baptist.
The Bears (1-0) jumped out to the quick lead as they got goals from Alberto Suarez in the 14th minute and Vicent Abaso in the 17th minutes to make it 2-0.
Walkes got the Vaqueros (0-1) on the board with his first goal in the 26th minute as he cut into the Bears lead to 2-1.
The Bears got a goal just minutes into the second half as Rubyn Gill made it 3-1. Suarez added his second goal of the match to put the Bears up 4-1 in the 50th minute.
Walkes answered back with two quick goals as he converted a penalty kick to cut the lead in half before adding another goal just minutes later.
The Vaqueros had chances late in the match but Bears goalkeeper Zach Schawl made the stops to keep the Vaqueros at bay.
The Vaqueros will be back in action on Sunday when they travel to Tulsa, Oklahoma to face Oral Roberts at 12 p.m.
