Area roundup: Monmouth/Winthrop's Ella Rice turns in hat trick in second half to shelve Mountain Valley - Lewiston Sun Journal

RUMFORD — Monmouth/Winthrop’s Lydia Rice turned in hat trick in the second half and Ella Rice and Megan Ham each scored in the first, leading the Mustangs to a 5-0 girls soccer shutout over Mountain Valley on Thursday.

Monmouth/Winthrop (1-0) goalie June Foyt kept Mountain Valley scoreless, making three saves. The Mustangs outshot the Falcons, 27-3. Emma Koch and Justice Gendron teamed up in net for the Falcons (0-1), with making 17 and two saves, respectively.

CAMDEN HILLS 9, LEWISTON 0: Sydney Stone scored four times in the Windjammers’ (1-0) victory over the Blue Devils in Lewiston.

Alexandra Tassoni scored twice for Camden Hills, while Kara Andrews, Brenna Mackey. and Leah Snyder each added one goal.

Goalie Ava Simpson made 25 saves for Lewiston (0-1).

BOYS SOCCER
EDWARD LITTLE 6, MT. BLUE 1: Mohamed Adow recorded a hat trick to pace the Red Eddies (1-0) past the Cougars in Auburn.

Jack Thompson had two goals and an assist for Edward Little, while Simon Hall had one goal. Shaheen Ekal notched two assists. Eli St. Laurent made one save in the win.

Josh Smith scored Mt. Blue’s (0-1) only goal.

BRUNSWICK 5, OXFORD HILLS 0: Gus Silverman scored twice as the Dragons took the season opener in Brunswick.

Jack Banks, David Nzuzi and Liam Driscoll also scored, and Driscoll added two assists. Brady Laforge made six saves to earn the shutout.

Emmett Hand recorded 12 saves for Oxford Hills.

FIELD HOCKEY
OXFORD HILLS 2, EDWARD LITTLE 0: Vikings goalie Lauren Morse stopped all four shots she faced to earn a shutout against the Red Eddies in Auburn.

Ashley Campbell scored in the first quarter for Oxford Hills (1-0) and Ashlee Farrar dropped in a goal in the fourth quarter.

Kasey Smith made four saves for Edward Little (0-1).

MT. BLUE 6, HAMPDEN 1: Lauren Howatt and Natalie Howard each had two goals and an assist to lead the Cougars past the Broncos in Farmington.

Eva Stevens scored and had an assist for Mt. Blue (1-0), while Elle Marshall scored a goal.

Reese Levesque had Hampden Academy’s (0-1) lone goal and Jada Billadeau made four saves.
