SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – BYU running back Tyler Allgeier scored the Cougars’ first touchdown of the 2021 season after a trick play moved the team deep into Arizona territory.
The Cougars played the Arizona Wildcats at Allegiant Stadium, the home of the Las Vegas Raiders, on Saturday, September 4.
With 9:17 remaining in the first half, Allgeier ran the ball 15 yards into the end zone for BYU’s first touchdown of the season.
Allgeier’s run gave the Cougars a 6-0 lead. BYU failed to convert on their extra point attempt after a mishandled snap.
The running back’s run was set up by a trick play.
One play before Allgeier’s red zone run, BYU quarterback Jaren Hall pitched the ball off to wide receiver Neil Pau’u.
The receiver then threw to ball ahead to a QB turned wideout in Hall.
The Hall-Pau’u connection was a nine-yard toss/reception that moved BYU into the red zone.
After the touchdown run, Hall was 6/12 passing for 67 yards.
Allgeier had eight carries for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Pau’u recorded three catches for 35 yards.
BYU’s game against Arizona is broadcast on ESPN and KSL NewsRadio 102.7 FM and 1160 AM.
