Syracuse, N.Y. — On the final day of the New York State Fair Monday, crowds gathered for the final two music acts at Chevy Park stage.
The threat of rain gone by showtime, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts took to the stage for an afternoon show in front a crowd of about 15,000. Jett came on stage wearing a mask and promptly took it off before picking up her guitar.
The band started right on time and worked their way through their song catalog.
Joan took time to speak to the crowd about her long career in the music industry, starting with her involvement with The Runaways and then her breaking out with her band The Blackhearts.
She also spoke about the movie work she has done with Michael J. Fox and how the Springsteen song “Light of Day” was featured, then proceeded to play that song.
Many in the crowd said they’ve seen the band many times over the decades and were looking forward to this show.

There was a four-hour break between Joan Jett and Cheap Trick. Most of the crowd for Jett disbursed but a core group remained to ensure the best seats for the final show.
Rick Nielsen was less flashy than usual. Known for his quirky stage presence and multiple custom guitars, this show was actually tame for him.
An early highlight in the show was their version of the Fats Domino song “Ain’t That A Shame.” The concert drew a crowd of about 12,000.
