Minnesota (17-5-1) was scored on first for only the third time this season when Minnesota State's (9-11-1) Brittyn Flemming got the Mavericks on the board 25 seconds into the contest. It was senior forward Amy Potomak who provided the offensive spark for the maroon and gold as she recorded her second career first period hat-trick. The Aldergrove, B.C. native tallied all three goals within a 6:46 span. Emily Zumwinkle added the other first period tally for her second goal in as many games. Senior forward Taylor Heise tacked on a goal in the second period to extend her team-best total to 16 on the year. Madeline Wethington and Emma Conner each added goals in the third.
Skylar Vetter, fresh off of earning WCHA Goaltender of the Week, started in goal for Minnesota. The freshman allowed one early, but was brilliant the rest of the way as she made a season and career high 29 saves in the victory. Minnesota State's Frank made 41 stops in the losing effort.

I felt like our team settled in after that and scored four in the first period. Amy Potomak with the hat-trick in the first was a big highlight and Skylar Vetter played really, really well. Minnesota's 15-game scoring first streak was snapped with the first goal allowed all season within the first minute of the game. Amy Potomak recorded her second career hat-trick, the other also took place within the first period. Senior forward Savannah Norcross and sophomore forward Audrey Wethington each recorded a career-high three assists.
