With the start of the new year, Prisma Health has a variety of health tips community members may keep in mind as potential goals to help prioritize health and wellness.
Health:
- Start small — find five minutes a day to work toward your health and wellness goals and celebrate small victories
- As you increase workout frequency, keep up with changes to your heart rate
- Introduce new and different exercises to keep your routine fresh and avoid overuse injuries
- Stop if an exercise leads to sharp or throbbing pain
- Eat only when hungry and stop when you’re satisfied
- Drink at least half your body weight in ounces of plain water each day
- Cut out sugary drinks and limit caffeinated drinks to 16 ounces per day
- Assess alcohol intake and cut down as needed
Wellness:
- Seek a quiet place to meditate, pray or take a walk
- Get at least seven hours of sleep each night
“The beginning of a new year is a good time to take stock again of your health and wellness habits,” said Dr. Jeremy Byrd — Prisma Health Primary Care Fountain Inn. “We encourage individuals to establish new routines that incorporate healthy habits into their daily lives. Increased exercise, healthier diet choices and prioritizing mental health can all help improve overall health and help prevent disease.”
