Like many, I got into jigsaw puzzles at the start of the pandemic. Now that we're roughly two years into it, I'm sure many have abandoned the urge to puzzle — but not me. I've still been going strong with roughly one puzzle per week; suffice to say, I've bought a plethora of them over the last few years. But none have surprised and delighted me quite like the puzzles from Magic Puzzle Company.
What is the Magic Puzzle Company?
Magic Puzzle Company makes thoughtful puzzles that feature original art, unique pieces, Easter eggs, and a surprise "magic trick" ending. It started as a Kickstarter campaign and managed to raise $3.4 million from 60,000 backers to fund its first three puzzles: The Mystic Maze, The Happy Isles, and The Sunny City.
In February 2022, it expanded with three more puzzles: The Crystal Caves, The Forest Feast, and The Busy Bistro. You can also buy the puzzles in sets for Series One and Series Two.
See, these aren't ordinary puzzles. No, they're part jigsaw puzzle, part scavenger hunt, part visual story, and part magic trick.

The pieces are also thick and well made from heavy cardstock. They felt quite premium compared to other puzzles I've assembled.
Without saying too much, nothing is quite as it seems in this puzzle. Even putting together the border together at the beginning came with it's fair share of surprises.
My lips are sealed about what's inside, but I'll say that the trick really ties the whole puzzle story together and feels like the cherry on top of an already delightful and engaging puzzle.
Even showing you the completed puzzle would reveal some of the surprises in store. Suffice to say, if you're a puzzler like me, you'll find the Magic Puzzle Company puzzles a bold and whimsical departure from the typical jigsaw. I highly recommend you give them a try if you're looking for something new.
Pros: Original and engaging art, lots of unique pieces and surprises throughout putting it together, a magic trick at completion, durable and high-quality pieces, thoughtful packaging, Easter eggs to find while putting it together, no puzzle dust (!)
Cons: Loses its replay value after the first solve (then again, so do most puzzles)
