'Wordle' #386 Clues, Tips and Answer for Sunday, July 10 - Newsweek

Wordle, a daily word puzzle, has drawn in tens of millions active users with its simple yet addictive formula: guess a five-letter word in just six attempts.

Created and released by Brooklyn-based software engineer Josh Wardle in October 2021, the game quickly became a global success and was sold to the The New York Times in February.

The game's rules are as follows: Use your six tries to guess the five-letter word of the day, paying attention to Wordle's color-coded grid system. Generally, the fewer attempts it takes to crack the answer, the better.

A letter that's in the correct position will turn a tile green, while a letter that is included in the answer, but is in the incorrect position, will turn a tile yellow. Finally, the tile will turn gray if you select a letter that is incorrect altogether, meaning that it isn't part of the Wordle of the day at all.

If you are up for a challenge you can give today's Wordle a try for free here.

Other Wordle-inspired brainteasers have also popped up since Wardle released his game after completing it during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some include the math-based Nerdle, the music-based Heardle, and for something a little more complicated, Quordle requires players to solve not just one, but four words in nine attempts.

Wardle himself suggests that players' first attempts should eliminate as much of the alphabet as possible, for example, by selecting words with multiple vowels, and avoiding words that contain letters such as X, W, Z, until you are clearer on what the word could be.
