Aikey's Hat Trick Powers Cardinal - Stanford University Athletics - Stanford Athletics

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Freshman Jasmine Aikey recorded her first career hat trick to lead No. 7 Stanford (14-2-1, 7-1-0 Pac-12) to a 3-0 victory at Oregon State (4-9-3, 0-7-1 Pac-12) on Sunday afternoon in Pac-12 play.

The hat trick, Aikey's first multi-goal game of her career, was the second of the year for Stanford after Lumi Kostmayer managed three goals against San Diego on September 15, 2022.

The 3-0 shutout was the ninth clean sheet posted by the Cardinal this year – including the third in as many matches.

Despite taking four corner kicks and holding a 17-2 advantage in first-half shots, Stanford found itself in a scoreless match at the break. The Cardinal put nine of its shots on goal – including three from Sierra Enge and two apiece from Aikey and Julia Leontini. Leontini finished her first 45 minutes with four total shots to pace the offense.

In a span of just over a minute, Aikey turned the scoreless match into a 2-0 lead with goals in the 47th and 49th minutes. Aikey took the ball at midfield and dribbled all the way into the box before cutting to her right foot and beating Oregon State goalkeeper Hailey Coll for her first of the match.

Moments later, Maya Doms fed Aikey a ball from the right wing where it found the foot of the freshman just outside the top of the 18-yard box. The Palo Alto, Calif. native took two touches into the box before delivering a right-footed shot that beat Coll to the far corner of the goal.

Aikey, who put seven of her match-best eight shots on frame, completed the hat trick in the 61st minute, stepping onto a free kick just outside the top of the box and perfectly placing it into the upper 90. Freshman Lumi Kostmayer earned the free kick after dribbling across the top of the box and being knocked down from behind.

Stanford finished the second half with 12 shots to compile 29 in the victory. The Cardinal put 18 of the 29 chances on frame to force Oregon State's duo of Coll and Mya Sanchez into 15 saves. Coll recorded 11 stops in the first 70 minutes before Sanchez managed four in the final 20.

Stanford's defense proved stingy on Sunday afternoon, limiting Oregon State to just three total shots – none of them coming on frame to test Ryan Campbell and Haley Craig in Stanford's goal. Campbell played the first 70 minutes in goal before Craig finished off the shutout.

Stanford will return home to The Farm next week, hosting Utah on Thursday at 4 p.m. before welcoming Colorado for a noon kickoff on Sunday.
