LYNDHURST, Ohio -- The city is inviting youngsters and their families to have a spooky good time by taking a stroll along its Trick or Treat Trail.
From 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, the city will host its Second Annual Trick or Treat Trail on the grounds of Lyndhurst Park, behind city hall, 5301 Mayfield Road.
“We held it last year and it was wonderful,” said Mayor Patrick Ward. ”Each of our (city) departments has a tent that’s decorated and they have treats and they’re all dressed up, and it’s decorated for Halloween. We have train rides and just a lot of fun things.
“It kind of replaced our indoor Halloween party that we used to have (in the city’s community center). We thought last year that this would be a good replacement for our Halloween party because people didn’t really want to be inside (during the pandemic). It (the outdoor event) was just off the hook, tremendously well received. It rained (in 2021), but the harder it rained, the more people came.
“If you look at pictures from the November, 2021 issue of our Lyndhurst Life magazine, you’ll see lines of people with umbrellas and kids in costumes. But they really had a good time and we felt so good about it and it was so well received we thought, ‘OK, let’s do this again and let’s make this our thing. We’ll make it an outdoor Halloween thing.’
“The (Lyndhurst Municipal) Court is (represented) there, our law department is there -- all of our departments. We have a balloon artist, (City) Council is giving out pumpkin decorating kits, and Boy Scouts from (Corpus Christi Academy) are going to be there selling pumpkins. So we’re hoping to have a nice evening (in terms of weather) this year. I think it’s going to be a great time for the kids. It’s pretty much for younger kids, but everyone will have a good time.”
Shred event and National Prescription Drug Takeback Day
The following day, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Oct. 22, Lyndhurst will hold its Fall Community Shred Day in the city hall parking lot, during which residents are invited to bring items they would like shredded prior to disposal.
Also scheduled in October is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration website states that “National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.”
Lyndhurst will take part in Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2p.m. Oct. 29 at city hall.
“Every day is really drug take back day in Lyndhurst,” Ward said. ”We do have a pill depository in city hall that’s open 24/7. But it’s kind of nice to capitalize on the hype that the national event gets. There are drugs in a lot of people’s medicine cabinets that they don’t plan to use themselves that could be taken or used by others to a negative result.
“So if people are not going to use the pills, it’s best to take them to an approved disposal facility, such as the one at city hall, or the many facilities that will be around on Drug Take Back Day. Our goal is to get as many drugs off the street as possible.”
Residents can drop off drugs any day at Lyndhurst City Hall in a disposal bin located in the lobby.
