Every year, there are a few new food trends that take the world by storm.
Remember last year's obsession with pesto eggs? Or that time whipped coffee became a viral sensation? Well, 2022 proved to be no exception.
This week, Google revealed its Year in Search, an annual report which includes top trending terms over a variety of categories (for instance, Wordle was the top trending game and Yellowstone made the list of top 10 trending TV shows). So, when it came to the top trending recipe searches of 2022, we were intrigued.
Unlike ever before, people were seeking out TikTok recipes, comfort food classics, and even recipes inspired by TV shows. So what were the trendiest recipes of the year?
Before we list them all out for you, it's important to note that these are not just the most searched recipes (that usually ends up being all-time favorites like mac and cheese). Instead, the data comes from trending searches or searches that had the biggest spike this year compared to last year. Let's take a look:

3. Marry Me chicken
4. Quick pancake
5. Mango pie
7. Jennifer Aniston salad
8. Grinder sandwich
9. Bella Hadid sandwich

Surprised? Us, too! It turns out that the top trending recipe for 2022 was "sugo", which is an authentic tomato sauce that's often used as a base for lasagna or pizza. (Looks like we'll be making Italian for dinner tonight!)
Other notable recipes that made the list are Cincinnati chili (a Midwestern favorite that combines chili, cheese, and spaghetti), Marry Me chicken (a popular chicken recipe that's sure to get you a second date), and quick pancakes (because who doesn't love a good pancake recipe? 😋).
