NBA game odds for January 17th are provided by Caesars Sportsbook, and fantasy advice is based on ESPN 10-team leagues.
Small Bucket: The Raptors travel to Milwaukee tonight and both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back: this could be ugly. Unders are 12-6-1 in Buck back-to-backs since the beginning of last season (four straight unders) and unders have come through in four of the Raptors' past five such spots. The potential return of Giannis would add scoring punch for the Bucks, but it would also make life difficult for Toronto's primary option in Pascal Siakam.
More Unders: "Overs" are exciting, but on this short slate, unders could well prove to be profitable. Under tickets have cashed in six of nine games this season when the Blazers are catching more than five points and they are 10-5-1 when the Nuggets are giving more than five points. Damian Lillard and Nikola Jokic are fantasy factories, but with both of their teams ranking bottom-10 in pace this season, be careful in assuming that this is a high scoring affair.
Brotherly Love: The city of Philadelphia got a stress free weekend from their football team and those good feelings should carry over to the hardwood tonight as their 6ers are 13-5 ATS in games that close with a spread closer than four points.
Finding the Fade: Tonight's game between the Bucks and Raptors claims a total of just 218, well below the average of 230.5 for the other three games on the slate. This doesn't mean there's no value to be found in either rotation, yet ceilings are compromised with both teams proving fairly slow in regards to pace (Bucks are 15th, Raptors 27th) while also both having played yesterday This game would surface as interesting for DFS value if Giannis Antetokounmpo sits again, vaulting Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis into strong plays. Barring that, fading this contest could prove savvy.
Powell Ball: Clippers shooting guard Norman Powell has been quite productive since his return from a groin injury that cost him 10 games back in December. Over his last 13 games since rejoining the rotation, Powell, who is a free agent in 78% of ESPN leagues, has averaged 17 points on great efficiency with passable defensive rates. During a smaller slate, it's important to identify and acquire the top streaming candidates, making Powell a name to watch.
Backing Brooklyn: With Kevin Durant still sidelined, there is likely some value to be found in the Nets' rotation. Versatile forward Royce O'Neale (68% available in ESPN leagues), for instance, has a fairly stable fantasy floor given he's productive on the glass and as a passer for his position. After all, he just finished two dimes shy of a triple-double this past Sunday. Seth Curry (82%), meanwhile, poured in 23 points on Sunday and his usage rate leaps a team-high five percent with Durant off the floor. At the wing, TJ Warren (95%) is posting 18.6 points per 36 minutes with Durant on the bench.

Best bet: Fred VanVleet over 23.5 points + assists. VanVleet has had an up and down season but has averaged 18.2 points and 6.3 assists per game this season. He's coming off of a huge game against the Knicks on Monday. VanVleet is in a good spot against the Bucks tonight. -- Moody

Sochan had 15 points and eight rebounds against the Kings on Sunday and has has averaged 9.6 points and 6.2 rebounds over his last six games, scoring in double digits in four of them. While he is prone to disappearing on occasion, with only four games on the slate tonight, Sochan should get another start against a Nets team that ranks 16th in defensive rebounds allowed. -- Steve Alexander
Fantasy streamer: Royce O'Neale (rostered in 35.1% of ESPN leagues) O'Neale has benefitted from Kevin Durant's absence. He has scored 30 or more fantasy points and surpassed 30 minutes over the past four games. -- Eric Moody
Best bet: Kyrie Irving over 35.5 combined points and assists. The Nets have dropped two straight games (Boston, OKC) but have a prime opportunity to get back in the win column tonight with a visit to San Antonio. The Spurs will be without Devin Vassell (knee) and the Nets will rely heavily upon Irving's ability to score against Tre Jones and company. Irving was disappointing in Sunday's loss to the Thunder, hitting 7-of-20 shots for 15 points and six assists. He had scored at least 24 points in seven of his eight previous games. Irving has to score without Kevin Durant around and he should bounce back on Tuesday against the Spurs. -- Alexander
Best bet: Ben Simmons over 15.5 rebounds + assists. Simmons was a late scratch on Sunday but is expected to return tonight. Simmons has averaged 7.8 rebounds and 7.8 assists over the past five games. The Spurs are one of the worst teams in the league ranking 30th in points allowed per 100 possessions, while allowing opponents an effective field goal percentage of 58%, the highest in the NBA. -- Moody
Best bet: Tre Jones over 22.5 combined points and assists. Jones has gone over 22.5 points + assist in six straight games and Kyrie Irving isn't exactly known as a defensive stopper. As long as his shots are falling tonight, hitting this over shouldn't be that hard. -- Alexander

Line: Nuggets (-6.5)
Money line: Nuggets (-260), Blazers (+210)
Total: 238.5 points

BPI Win%: Nuggets (61.4%)
Questionable: Vlatko Cancar, Bones Hyland, Jamal Murray
Ruled Out: Collin Gillespie, Jeff Green
Note: BPI numbers factored in players who are ruled out but assumes questionable players will play
Best bet: Nikola Jokic over 46.5 points + assists + rebounds. Despite the high total, Jokic is capable of exceeding this number. The Trail Blazers have allowed the third most PPG and the fourth most APG to centers this season. Jokic has averaged 20 points, 12.3 assists and 13.5 rebounds over his past four games and is enjoying another MVP-caliber season. -- Moody
Best bet: Damian Lillard over 39.5 combined points and assists. Lillard has averaged 37.2 points and 6.4 assists over his past five games and 40 combined points and assists in three straight games. He had 34 points and eight assists in their previous meeting on Dec. 23 and dropped 40 points with12 assists against the Nuggets on Dec. 8. There's no reason to think he can't do it again tonight. -- Alexander
Philadelphia 76ers at LA Clippers
10 p.m. ET, Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, California
Line: 76ers (-1)
Money line: 76ers (-115), Clippers (-105)
Total: 223 points
BPI Projected Total: 219.8 points
BPI Win%: 76ers (56.1%)
Ruled Out: Paul George, Luke Kennard, John Wall
Note: BPI numbers factored in players who are ruled out but assumes questionable players will play
Fantasy streamer: Terance Mann (rostered in 8.0 % of ESPN leagues) Mann went off for 31 points, six rebounds, four assists and five triples on 12-of-16 shooting against the Rockets on Sunday. He has hit double digit points in five of his past six games and while it's highly unlikely he'll be as efficient tonight; his confidence is booming and the Clippers will likely try to keep him going. With only four games on the slate, fantasy owners will have to try to find a hot hand and roll with it and Mann was certainly hot in his last one. -- Alexander
Fantasy streamer: Norman Powell (rostered in 24.5% of ESPN leagues) Powell has been a viable streamer for the Clippers since Luke Kennard has missed the last four games due to right calf soreness. He has averaged 19.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 0.8 steals over the past four games. -- Moody
Best bet: Joel Embiid over 43.5 combined points and rebounds. Embiid was instrumental in Sunday's one-point win over the Lakers on Sunday when he had 35 points and 11 rebounds, and also stopped Russell Westbrook's potential game-winning 'shot.' Embiid has topped 46 total points and rebounds in three of his last five games and when the Sixers hosted the Clippers back on Dec. 23, Embiid went off for 44 points and seven rebounds on 18-of-30 shooting. He'll be licking his chops for another meeting with Ivica Zubac and will be looking to do it again tonight. -- Alexander
