DARIEN - Doster Crowell scored a hat trick to lead No. 3 New Canaan past top-ranked Fairfield Prep 4-1 Friday at the Darien Ice House.
The Rams led 3-0 after two periods, all on goals by Crowell. The senior opened the scoring with 22.5 seconds remaining in the first frame.
New Canaan came up empty on a two-minute 5-on-3 in the second period, but Crowell then netted two goals in a 17-second span, both with assists from junior Brayden Robie.
Prep senior James Murphy got one back on a power play early in the third, but New Canaan’s Elliott Kropf responded with the final; goal four minutes later.
Both teams were ranked in the top three of the GameTimeCT Preseason Top 10 Poll, but No. 1 Prep, the defending Div. I champion, has lost its first two games, while No. 3 New Canaan is 2-0.
