OAKWOOD HILLS, IL — A 19-year-old man drowned in Silver Lake over the weekend, authorities said.
The Cary, Fox River Grove and Nunda Rural fire protection districts were called to the 100 block of Lakeshore Drive in Oakwood Hills at about 1 a.m. Sunday for a report of a canoe that had tipped over, and one person on the boat who did not make it to shore, according to a news release from the Cary Fire Protection District.
The boat was about halfway across the lake and there were two people on board the canoe, a 20-year-old Schaumburg resident and a 19-year-old man, when it flipped over, fire officials said.

A water rescue team located the teen 60 feet from shore and in about 12 feet of water, according to authorities. The body was recovered, and the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 20-year-old was able to swim to shore before rescue crews arrived. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
