Super Bowl predictions: Experts picks for Chiefs vs. Buccaneers | Line, betting tips and offers - NJ.com

The AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, are 3-point favorites to beat the NFC champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, led by quarterback Tom Brady, in Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

Brady, who won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, is looking for another ring, this time with the Bucs, who signed him as a free agent in 2020. Brady has lost three Super Bowls -- two to the New York Giants and one to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Mahomes and the Chiefs, the defending NFL champions, are looking for their second title in a row. They rallied to beat the San Francisco 49ers last year, 31-20.

Here’s what you need to know:

Against the spread: Chiefs 8-10-0 | Bucs 11-8-0

This feels like one of those Super Bowls we’ll look back on and wonder, “How the heck did Tampa Bay get that far?” The answer is Tom Brady, some good fortune and some historically bad decisions from opposing coaches. The Chiefs have the best player in football, a game-breaking receiver and a dynasty in the making. They’ll win easily. Chiefs 34, Buccaneers 20

So many intriguing storylines in this Super Bowl. Can Tom Brady win his seventh championship? Or will Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs become the first team to repeat since Brady’s Patriots in 2003-04? This is also a redemptive opportunity for ex-Jets coach Todd Bowles, now the Buccaneers’ defensive coordinator. If Tampa Bay wins, Bowles will have conquered Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Mahomes while winning his first title as a coach. But the Chiefs’ offense — ranked third in Pro Football Focus’ ratings — ultimately will be too much for Bowles and Co., who are fifth in PFF’s defensive ratings. Chiefs 38, Buccaneers 35

This is one of the more exciting quarterback matchups … maybe ever? A legacy-defining one for Patrick Mahomes, possibly. The Buccaneers playing the Super Bowl at home is uncharted territory. There are a lot of little things, like the Chiefs’ decimated offensive line going against an elite Buccaneers defensive front, that make Tampa Bay a logical pick to upend Kansas City. Tom Brady is still Tom Brady. But at the end of the day, Mahomes is the best football player in the world, the Chiefs’ offense is unstoppable and overall they are simply too good to be overcome even by the greatest quarterback in NFL history. Chiefs 28, Buccaneers 24

An under-discussed storyline this week is the Super Bowl rematch between Tom Brady and former Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who brilliantly pressured the then-Patriots QB in Super Bowl XLII. Spagnuolo put out the blueprint on how to mitigate Brady in a Super Bowl, and with Patrick Mahomes putting up points on the opposite side of the ball, the Chiefs’ defensive coordinator will be able to take chances with blitzes against Brady and the Bucs. While this one will be close, Spags’ strategy should bring out the worst in Brady like it did in 2007. Chiefs 27, Buccaneers 23

The Nov. 29 matchup, won by the Chiefs, was decided by three points. The Tom Brady vs. Patrick Mahomes showdown should be entertaining, and both offenses can move the ball through the air. The difference will lie with the run game. The Buccaneers have allowed an average of only 85.7 rushing yards in three playoff games. The Bucs are the first team to play a Super Bowl at home, which will help Brady win his seventh Super Bowl title. Buccaneers 31, Chiefs 27

Joe Giglio, NFL reporter

Get ready for a shootout in Tampa Bay. Kansas City’s offense is too dynamic and special to be stopped. Tampa Bay’s attack is on fire, with a 43-year-old quarterback that somehow looks younger by the week. One day, we’ll remember this game as a battle of the two best quarterbacks in NFL history. Tom Brady is the GOAT, and will hold that stats for a long time. But Patrick Mahomes is special enough to actually chase him down one day, and that quest starts with back-to-back titles and a head-to-head win on the biggest stage. Chiefs 33, Buccaneers 27
