Mathew Barzal's hat trick on Thursday was extra tricky.
Each one of the New York Islanders three goals in a 8-4 win against the Washington Capitals was uniquely beautiful and seemingly, increasing degree of difficulty.
The bar was set with Barzal's first goal when he navigated 200 feet of ice, four Washington Capitals skaters and goalie Vitek Vanecek for a highlight-reel end-to-end goal.
Barzal weaved his way through Capitals forwards Tom Wilson and Nicklas Backstrom before slipping between defensemen Zdeno Chara and Brenden Dillon before putting a rocket past Vanecek. And he did it all in seven seconds.
For goal number two, Barzal took a gorgeous, through-the-crease feed from Islanders forward Jordan Eberle, collected it, spun completely around and fired it into the net.
Goal number three? Well that was just your run-of-the-mill, batting the puck out of midair with a perfect baseball swing while skating toward the net goal.
It was Barzal's third career hat trick but far and away the prettiest.
