An Ocala waitress is currently facing fraud and petit theft charges after allegedly being caught changing the tip amount on receipts.
On July 6, a manager at the Iron Skillet restaurant located at 7383 West Highway 318 in Reddick reported 33-year-old Kayla Conner was altering receipts to increase tip amounts.
The manager reported two people came into the restaurant and said their bank accounts did not match the amount of money they should have been charged for their meals. A Marion County Sheriff’s officer was given twenty receipts of transactions completed by Conner which appeared to be forged and changed, according to the sheriff’s report.
During an interview, Conner, who works as a waitress at the restaurant, initially denied changing any receipts and claimed it is normal for her to receive larger tips, the report stated.
Conner later admitted to changing tips on several transactions during the week and said when the tip section of the receipt was left blank, she would fill out a tip amount, according to the report.
One customer said he left a tip amount of $3.90 and not $53.90 which was charged to his bank account and shown on the receipt. Another customer said he heft a $6 tip and the receipt showed a $100 tip, according to the report.
Conner was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail on July 12 with a bond set at $8,000. She was charged with fraud and petit theft.
