Packers fans attending NFL Draft in Detroit give tips to fellow fans for next year's event - Fox11online.com

DETROIT (WLUK) -- Detroit is ready for another day of draft fun, with the second round kicking off Friday at 6 p.m.

More than 275,000 people entered the draft footprint on day one, breaking a first day record.

We've heard all week that perhaps 400,000 people could be showing up to downtown Detroit over the three days of the NFL Draft -- and we are well on our way to that mark, if day one was any indication.

Fans from every team are represented in the crowds. Detroit, naturally, is the most represented. Chicago, who had the first overall pick, has a ton of fans in attendance as well. And of course, Packers fans always travel well and are among the most represented teams in Detroit.

Many fans are experiencing the draft for the first time and others come back year after year.

Seeing the large crowds on TV might be daunting for some who have perhaps been thinking about attending the draft next year in Green Bay. FOX 11 spoke with a few Packers fans who offered up advice to people thinking about attending the event in Titletown.

“You don’t necessarily have to watch all the picks and everything. Just to see the people, see the event, it’s just a fun time,” said Stan Antolec of Milford, Michigan.

“I would recommend they plan ahead because Green Bay, of course, is a much smaller town and [has] much less places to stay, so if you’re thinking about going to Green Bay, definitely start making your plans now,” said Chris Janus of Madison.

“Come prepared, clear bags,” said Mick McClendon of Washington, D.C. “They made him throw food away, it was awful. We were heartbroken. Be prepared to walk, wear good shoes, and bring money.”

“Be prepared for long lines,” said Jay Mcclendon of Detroit. “A lot of long lines, but it’s totally worth it, absolutely.”

A very important thing to remember for next year is the draft campus will close when it reaches capacity. FOX 11 found some fans who did not know that this year, and were left on the outside looking in.

On day one, the gates were closed off a little more than an hour before the actual draft started.

Green Bay is on the clock for the 2025 NFL Draft! FOX 11's Ben Krumholz hosts a special at 9:30 p.m. May 5 to find out how local authorities are preparing and what Northeast Wisconsin can expect.
